ADC Questions Tinubu’s Extended Stay in France

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has questioned President Bola Tinubu’s continued stay in France after his three-week annual vacation elapsed.

ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the President’s prolonged absence from Nigeria was concerning and accused the administration of setting a dangerous precedent.

“What is the President doing in Paris? What is so important in France that the President of Nigeria is doing? The Secretary to the Federal Government, is he now the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria?” Abdullahi asked while speaking on Channels Television Politics Today on Monday.

He added, “What they are doing is dangerous. They are setting a very dangerous precedent.”

RBN reported Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria this weekend after extending his working vacation in Europe by a few days, the Presidency said on Monday.

Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for London, where he spent about a week before proceeding to Paris, France.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, “President Tinubu will return to Nigeria at the weekend, following the extension of his working vacation by a few days.”

He added that “President Tinubu has continued to keep in touch with home, directing the affairs of the nation, like ordering an independent panel to investigate the death of 37 illegal miners in Minna, following their detention by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among other things.”

RBN reported that Vice-President Kashim Shettima has represented Tinubu at some official engagements during the President’s absence, including the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he is scheduled to deliver Nigeria’s national statement.

The Presidency said Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, would also continue to represent the President at official events.
